No, it is not ok!

I hate error messages that just state the fact and then give you a single ok button. Like on the IPhone, I try to read mail, it cannot connect and it comes back with the message: “Cannot get mail” and provides me with a single choice: “Ok”.

No, it is not ok. You did not do you job you little piece of no good junk. I would feel much better if it would provide me with a way to rate its performance so I could get the frustration of my chest. I would be much happier if it gave me three buttons:

• [Do it again and be thrown out]
• [We’ll let it slip this time]
• and [It is Ok for now]

Yes, much happier.

A Good Time to Quit?

We just got a new person on our team. He had been at Microsoft before but quite some years ago to go travel fro a couple of years. Now travelling had become tiresome and he wanted to settle down again for a bit and so got back to work.

Got me thinking… is now really the perfect time to quit and go travelling or work on a new business idea? At least assuming you have the funds, or should you wait? Think about it. Everything is cheaper right now. Airfares are dirt cheap as the carriers are desperate for business, hotels are dying for business, and stores seem to be inventing new anniversaries that can give them an excuse for a sale. Maybe now is the best time in years to quit for a while enjoy life and then get back to work when the economy is picking up again.

Sometimes you still need locally installed apps

The internet was down yesterday. At least our local version of it. I have installed some cool AIR applications recently, one of them Kuler from Adobe, and I was working in Photoshop when the internet exhaled. Did not disturb my work, but I did want to get some colors and opened the Kuler AIR app… No luck with that. It just goes to show that there is still a need for off-line scenarios. Despite this being written in a ‘Discount Tires’ waiting room. I appreciate them having internet.

John Bolton on John Stewart

I am watching Jon Stewart on Comedy Central and his guest is John Bolton and this is super interesting. I may not agree with Mr. Bolton but he is one of the few guests on any show that has survived well. I would say that for once the host did not destroy the guest. Quite unexpected.

Bolton has some interesting views about democracy that basically goes along this line: You vote for a president and hence a way of running the country in other words you should expect the president to replace everyone in the administration with people who agree with him. John Stewart disagrees and thinks that the president should suround himself with people who can question him. It goes on into an interesting and equal discussion.

Interestingly enough this reminds me of the destinction between Denamrk and Sweden. In Sweden the leading party has a history of replacing people in the administration with people of the same political orientation. In Denmark, this is much less common, and usually happens on a smaller scale.

Yes it is marketing but it is also so much more. And it is well in line with Microsof tbeing the company in the world tht donates the most amount of money to all kinds of causes.

Tomato Juice

Tomato juice is, like olives, an aquired taste. But it has its purposes. It is the closest thing to fluid food that is readily available in the office. Good for the hunger.
